macOS marks a file that came from the web. If the first open says the app is damaged, that mark is what it is refusing. In Terminal, after the app is in Applications:

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/BaudWire.app

BaudWire is the Mac bridge for a pad that sends MIDI as serial bytes. Hairless MIDI stopped after macOS Mojave. This app opens the serial port and publishes those bytes where Logic and the other music apps can take them. The Mac App Store listing is still ahead. The file above is the current build.

The bridge

Start opens the chosen serial port. Bytes from the pad become MIDI on a virtual port named Serial MIDI Bridge Out. MIDI that arrives on Serial MIDI Bridge In is written back out the serial port. The count under the status line is those two directions.

Clock and active sensing are dropped, and they stay out of the message list. A message that comes straight back from the port it was just sent to is blocked. System exclusive headed for the serial port is paced at MIDI DIN speed, so a long dump is not cut off and the port can still be read. An orange light flashes when a message passes the filter. The green check is the bridge running.

Pad voice

Change the note is on. The lit button is what other apps hear. It opens on snare, note 38. The stepper reaches any note from 0 to 127. Send on channel 10 is off until it is turned on. Drum racks usually listen there. A note off follows the note that was sent, including when the voice changes while a hit is still held. A learned control wins over the lit button.

Routing

The virtual ports stay. Routing can also copy the outgoing messages to one hardware MIDI port, or take messages from one hardware port and write them to the serial device. The group starts closed.

Learned controls

Learn next control waits for a knob or a pad, then saves that note or control change onto another number. The velocity slider runs from light hits to firm, and it starts in the middle. The group starts closed.

The serial port

The port list is the Mac's cu devices. Baud starts at 115200. The list is 9600, 19200, 31250, 38400, 57600, 115200, 230400, 250000, 460800, 500000, 921600, and 1000000. 31250 is the MIDI DIN rate. Data bits start at 8, and the choices are 5, 6, 7, and 8. Parity starts at none, with even and odd beside it. One stop bit, unless 2 stop bits is on. Hardware flow control (RTS/CTS) starts off. Those settings lock while the bridge is running.

Do not reset the board starts off. Turned on, the next open leaves DTR alone, so an Arduino does not reboot when the port opens. Reconnect when the device returns starts on, and Stop keeps it from reconnecting. If the saved port is gone and exactly one serial port is present, that port is used.

On the Mac

The menu bar item is the same bridge: the activity light, Start and Stop, and Show BaudWire. The Dock icon stays. Open at login works after the app lives in Applications. macOS refuses that item from anywhere else, and the status line says so.

There is no MIDI clock generator, and there is no second serial device. A board that already appears as USB MIDI does not need this. An Uno or a Nano that prints MIDI bytes on its serial port does.
